Legislators
are elected for four-year terms and take office on the same day as the governor
and other statewide elected officials. The
current term of the legislature began on Monday, January 12, 2004 at 10:00 a.m.
A vacancy in the legislature can be filled only for the remainder of the term
during which the vacancy occurred and only by the electors of the district in
which the vacancy occurred (La.
Const. Art. III, Sec. 4(D)) and
(R.S.18:601(B))
