John A. "Johnny" Berthelot
John Berthelot was elected to the
Louisiana House of Representatives in 2011 and serves House
which is situated entirely within Ascension Parish. He was recently
reelected, unopposed to serve his second term 2016-2020.

Berthelot has held many past and present memberships on local and

he was elected first to the Gonzales Town Council and then to the
Gonzales City Council in 1980 when he served as Mayor Pro-Tempore. In
1984, Berthelot was elected Mayor of Gonzales. His efforts to cut taxes,
build up the city's financial reserve, and bolster the fire and
recreation departments were so impressive that he ran for Mayor of
Gonzales unopposed in 1988, 1992, 1996, 2000 and 2004. In 2008,
Berthelot received the prestigious President's Award by the Louisiana
Municipal Association. After serving for 24 years, Berthelot retired as
mayor and soon after, decided to run for state representative and won.
Representative Johnny Berthelot served many years as LMA Vice President
District F- Also LMA Vice President at Large, LMA 1st Vice President ,
President LMA 1989-1990, LMA Past President 1990-2008.
Representative Johnny Berthelot was instrumental in organizing and
structuring the following LMA Service & Facilities: Serving on the Board
and Chairman of many of the following: Risk Management Inc- RMI,
Louisiana Municipal Gas Authority - LMGA, Louisiana Community
Development Authority- LCDA.
As state representative, during
his first term Berthelot served on the Appropriations, House and
Governmental Affairs, and the Municipal, Parochial and Cultural Affairs
Committees and the Joint Legislative Committee on the Budget. In his
second term Berthelot was appointed to be the Chairman of the Municipal,
Parochial and Cultural Affair Committee and still serves on
Appropriations and Joint Legislative Committees. He also is a member of
the Acadiana Delegation, the Capital Regional Legislative Delegation,
the Louisiana Republican Legislative Delegation and the Louisiana Rural
Johnny Berthelot is married to Paula Chauvin Berthelot.
Their family includes four wonderful children: Shelley, Kelley, Brad
and Kim and five grandchildren: Payton, Reid, Lennon, Gabe and Grant.
Berthelot's hobbies include cooking jambalaya, golfing and cheering for
the LSU Tigers.
