bulletRevamps the state's more than 100 job training programs by combining them under one umbrella bulletPresently, skilled laborers are desperately needed to fill numerous existing job openings in the state bulletCreates a 27 member Louisiana Workforce Commission bulletThe Commission is charged with developing a strategic plan that will coordinate and integrate the state's workforce development efforts. To that end no state agency may adopt an official workforce development plan or proposal without going before the Commission. bulletThe Commission must establish a comprehensive labor market information system to reflect the state's overall training and education effort bulletThat system must have three major components: bulletConsumer information on employment and training opportunities bulletObjective, fact-based performance information on workforce development programs, services and activities bulletProjections on workforce growth, and job growth and demand. Projections must be made both statewide and by geographic region. bulletThe Department of Labor is charged with implementing and maintaining the system bulletThe Consumer Information portion of the program must be available on the World Wide Web by January 1, 1998 bulletThe performance record portion must be available on the World Wide Web by January 1, 2000 bulletEffective July 1, 1997
