DeWitt Responds to Downer Announcement
Louisiana State Representative Charles DeWitt, D-Lecompte, responded today to the announcement by Speaker Hunt Downer that he is no longer in the race for Speaker of the House. The race will be decided by a vote of the members of the House of Representatives on January 10, 2000.
"Hunt Downer has been, and will remain, a good friend," said DeWitt. He continued, "I assure him, my fellow members of the House and the people of Louisiana that I will continue working for the reform that we, along with Governor Foster, have worked together to achieve over the past four years."
"I am thankful that the race for Speaker is now over so that we can all focus our efforts on the work that is yet to be done," said DeWitt.
