HOUSE SPEAKER DEWITT ANNOUNCES DATES FOR SPECIAL ELECTION TO FILL HOUSE DISTRICT 63 SEAT

Speaker of the Louisiana House of Representatives Charlie DeWitt today issued a proclamation calling for a special election to fill the vacancy in House Representative District 63. The vacancy exists due to the resignation of Melvin "Kip" Holden, effective January 14, 2002, as disclosed to Speaker DeWitt in Rep. Holden's December 27th letter of resignation.

Qualifying for the seat will begin January 16, 2002, and end at 5:00 p.m. on January 18, 2002.

The primary election is scheduled for March 2, 2002, and the date for the general election for April 6, 2002, if needed.

Speaker DeWitt said, "Kip Holden has served the people of his district with distinction and we wish him well in his new position as state senator."
