SPECIAL ELECTION CALLED FOR HOUSE DISTRICT 62 VACANCY
House Speaker Charlie DeWitt today issued a proclamation calling for a special election to fill the vacancy in House District 62 created by the resignation of John Travis, effective June 8, 2000.
The primary election will be held Saturday, October 7 and the general election, if needed, Tuesday, November 7, 2000.
Qualifying will begin on Wednesday, August 16 and end at 5:00 p.m. on Friday, August 18.
In calling the election, DeWitt said that by "having the election coincide with the Fall primary and general elections will result in a savings to the state for ballot printing, cost of commissioners and bringing in voting machines."
DeWitt further said that District 62 legislative offices will remain open to serve the citizens of the district.
Travis was appointed Commissioner of Financial Institutions by Governor Foster and confirmed by the Senate on June 7.
District 62 includes portions of East Baton Rouge, East Feliciana, St. Helena, Tangipahoa and West Feliciana.
