QUEZAIRE APPOINTED VICE CHAIR OF HIGHWAY COMMITTEE

Louisiana House Speaker Charlie DeWitt today named state Rep. Roy Quezaire, D-Donaldsonville, vice chair of the House Committee on Transportation, Highways and Public Works.

State Rep. John "Juba" Diez, chairman of the committee, said he was pleased to learn of the Speaker's decision.

"When Reggie Dupre, our former vice chairman was elected to the state Senate I asked Speaker DeWitt to please consider Roy as his replacement. Roy is a conscientious and dedicated legislator. I have every confidence that he will help provide progressive leadership for the committee and will work with me to further the goals of our area of south Louisiana and the entire state."

Quezaire thanked the Speaker and Diez for "the vote of confidence" and said he was honored by the appointment.

"The Transportation Committee plays a vital role in the economic well-being of our state. Infrastructure helps drive economic development and ensures jobs for our citizens. Further, my new role is an asset to our area in that it will enable Chairman Diez and myself to give the people of our area a bigger and stronger voice in the decision making process of state government. I look forward to the challenges of this new role."

First elected to the House in 1992, Quezaire represents House District 58 which encompasses parts of Ascension, Assumption, Iberville, St. James and St. John the Baptist parishes. Quezaire also serves on the House Municipal, Parochial and Cultural Affairs Committee and the House Legislative Services Council.
