SPECIAL ELECTION CALLED FOR HOUSE VACANCIES
Speaker Issues Proclamations for Districts 86 and 100
House Speaker Charlie DeWitt today issued proclamations calling for a special election to fill the vacancies in House districts 86 and 100 created by the resignations of Steve Windhorst (district 86) and Cynthia Willard (district 100).
The primary election for the seats will be held on Saturday, February 17 with a general election on Saturday, March 17.
Qualifying dates are January 3, 4, and 5.
DeWitt said, " In calling these elections I thought it necessary to consider the upcoming holidays. And, since these elections are in the New Orleans area, I had to balance not only Thanksgiving and Christmas but Mardi Gras, as well. By utilizing the February and March dates the voters should be able to focus on the election without too many distractions."
DeWitt further said the legislative offices in these districts will remain open to serve the citizens.
Windhorst was elected judge of Division J, 24th Judicial District Court on October 7. His election fills a vacancy created by Judge Clarence McManus' election to the 5th Circuit Court of Appeal.
Also elected on the same date to fill a vacancy, Willard will represent District E on the New Orleans City Council. She replaces Ellen Hazeur who resigned to take the position of clerk of the 1st City Court.
Willard's representative district includes part of Orleans Parish while Windhorst's covers parts of Orleans and Jefferson.
