JOINT COMMITTEES TO DISCUSS TRANSPORTATION EQUITY ACT FOR THE 21ST CENTURY

A joint meeting of the Louisiana House of Representatives Appropriations and Transportation, Highways and Public Works Committees will meet Wednesday, December 16, at 10:00 a.m. at the state capitol to hear discussion of the federal Transportation Equity Act for the 21st Century (TEA-21).

Transportation Committee Chairman Juba Diez said, "While TEA -21 provides for our highways, bridges, transit systems and intermodal projects, it also strengthens programs that increase seatbelt use, improve truck safety and reduce railroad crossing accidents. TEA-21 also adds the Congestion Mitigation and Air Quality Improvement Program which safeguards public health and the environment."

Tony Sussman of the Federal Highway Administration will provide an overview of TEA-21 and its financial changes and their impact on Louisiana.

Acting Secretary John Basilica of the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) will discuss state funding and how TEA-21 funds will benefit Louisiana.

DOTD Public Transportation Administrator Carol Cranshaw will present each public transportation program separately, and describe how they are expanded by TEA-21.
