REP. WILLARD TO SPONSOR JULY 4TH CELEBRATION
State Rep. Cynthia Willard-Lewis will sponsor the 6th Annual Senior Citizens 4th of July Celebration on June 25 from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. The free celebration will include food, health screenings, a patriotic sing-along, genealogy research information and a costume contest. Prizes will be awarded to the costume contest winners. Over 600 senior citizens participate annually in this event.
"I wanted to give something back to the community that has done so much for me," said Willard-Lewis, D-New Orleans. "This 4th of July celebration for seniors seemed the perfect way to let them know I appreciate everything they have done for me and for the community."
Also featured at the festivities are musicians Sharon Martin, Dave Bartholomew, Betty Shirley, "Big Al" Carson and the All Star Band.
In addition to Willard-Lewis, the program is sponsored by Family Advocacy and Neighborhood Services, Inc. It is funded, in part, by a grant from the Louisiana State Arts Council and the Louisiana Division of the Arts, as administered by the Arts Council of New Orleans.
The program will be held at the Joe Brown Gymnasium at 5600 Read Boulevard in New Orleans on Sunday. Willard-Lewis encourages all seniors to attend. For more information, call (504) 241-5700.
