WOOTON SWORN IN

Ernest Wooton, recently elected representative of House District 105, was officially sworn in today at the State Capitol. Wooton was elected to fill the unexpired term of Benny Rousselle who resigned after being elected parish president of Plaquemines Parish.

Wooton explained that he is anxious to begin his new duties.

"With the legislative session already underway, I didn't want to waste any time being sworn in. The people of District 105 deserve to be represented and I am ready to go to work for them. I think it is important that they have a voice in the deliberations that are underway in this session. It is an honor to represent our district and I look forward to being a part of molding Louisiana's future."

A former Plaquemines Parish Sheriff from 1984-92, he is an advocate of economic diversification. He said he feels sources outside the oil industry must be explored in order for the parish to remain economically healthy. Wooton supports the protection of crime victims' rights and quality education. He will also be active in law enforcement issues.

Wooton already has first-hand experience in the legislative process having worked closely with legislators in his role as an active member of the Louisiana Sheriffs Association.

Wooton is married to the former Linda Green. They have three children.
