Information on the Coronavirus

Today the Louisiana Legislature met briefly at the State Capital for briefings on the Pandemic Coronavirus Outbreak. Taking all the precautions and suggested protocols recommended, we immediately took up the necessary business required for the current session that needed to be done and adjourned again. Our future return to session is again very uncertain at this time. However, each of the legislators will now return to our districts to support our communities during this difficult and trying time.

Our message is very clear, that each of us has a very important role to play in this outbreak. Limiting the spread of Covid-19 is essential in order to protect our citizens from escalating the rise in cases and potential deaths. This can be done by all of us heeding the recommendations we have all heard many times: obey the stay home order issued by the governor; self-isolate if feeling sick; consult your physician if you are experiencing symptoms of the coronavirus; practice social distancing if you absolutely must be around others; wash hands for a minimum of 20 seconds; use hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol; cough or sneeze into your elbow. These suggestions seem so simple and we have heard them hundreds of times but we should not become complacent. They are very important. The virus cannot be spread if we do not allow it to.

Unfortunately, we have all felt the impact of this dreaded disease. Whether from economic loss, mental stress and anxiety, the fear and feeling of not being in control of our daily lives, or perhaps the sickness or loss of a loved one. In spite of our difficulties, please know we will persevere and we will rebound from this turbulent situation. I encourage all of us to be a superhero during this time by respecting others in practicing good health decisions. Go out of your way to be kind to someone every chance you get. Especially honor our health care personnel and all those who are on the front line of defense in this fight. They need our prayers and support.

Please know that as your representative, I am here to help in any way possible. We will face some difficult financial decisions on the state level when all of this has settled but I am confident we will succeed.

Wishing all of you and your family safety, security and good health.
